A wonderful mix, all ready to drink any time over the next year or two. We lead off with the Growers Gate Pinot Grigio and Chardy, which are both easy drinking and textural. The Cape Jaffa is clean, crisp and tropical. The Pioneer Road Shiraz is smooth, richly fruited and easy drinking; Cape Jaffa's magical blend is medium bodied with ripe black and red fruits and a beautiful fragrance; and the Red Deer Shiraz is a classic Langhorne Creek Cabernet.

It's been a while since we rolled out a double dozen. Fair to say they have always sold well and offer excellent coverage for the requirements of the silly season.

Crackers here like Mitchell Kalmar - a $50 a bottle, single vineyard Shiraz, Deep Woods SBS - a trophy winner from Margaret River. Showblock Rosie, a 95 point, $85 a bottle blend from McLaren Vale and Greenock Estate's Sieger old vine Barossa Shiraz. Retail on this one is $50 and it represents incredible value. We reckon there are a couple of Barossa producers who'd offer this wine at $100 or more.

You'll find a ripping selection of wines in this quarter's Platinum Wine Club selection: Riposte's stunningly fragrant Adelaide Hills Sauv Blanc, made by legendary Knappstein father/son winemaking team; Deep Woods' trophy winning Margaret River SSB, packed with white blossoms, snow pea and passionfruit; Claymore's '24 Joshua Tree Riesling, a stunner that we think is the best they've ever produced. The Sieger Shiraz is a monster, and a fine example of what A-grade Barossa fruit can do when paired with a gifted winemaker. Cape Jaffa's red blend is fragrant, medium bodied and a delight to drink, and the Scepter Barossa Shiraz is powerful and long.

A wonderfully flavoursome mix of reds and whites, ready to drink right now. Jeanneret's Riesling is classic Clare lemons and limes with a beautiful texture. The Growers Gate Chardy offers stone fruits in an easy drinking setting and the Smalltown Chardy is all tropical fruits and texture. Cape Jaffa's red blend is medium bodied, packed with fruit and filled with fragrance - a true joy to drink. Colab's Shiraz is a powerhouse made by a former Penfolds Grange winemaker and the Showblock Reserve is a huge, rich blend from McLaren Vale. Bust out a T-bone for this one.

Tough judging this year, with only around 5% of wines picking up a gold, and we can confirm that the quality of this year’s dozen is absolute fire across the board.

Every wine in the pack this year is a gold winner. There are also a couple of trophy winners: the After Five Monte, and Forester’s Shiraz. The latter is 86% Shiraz and 14% Fer… yep, an ancient varietal of Basque origin, which these days is also planted in some southern French wine regions. There is also a bit of it planted over in WA. The variety offers cassis, red fruits, black fruits, superb intensity and a degree of smokiness. This might be the first time a trophy winner at the Adelaide Wine Show has contained Fer, which offers a nice opportunity for nerdy contemplation. More importantly, the wine is beautiful. Looking beyond the accolades garnered at the Adelaide Show, these wines have also accrued an additional 10 gold medals, a trophy, a runner up in Halliday’s annual Cabernet competition and more. These wines are uniformly exceptional.
