Epic Baker's Dozen
Some pretty flash booze here. The Angas King is a 95 point and perfectly cellared, deeply fruited beauty from the Clare. The Curtis just keeps picking up awards (most recently, 2 gold medals) and is a $100 a bottle, old vine McLaren Vale belter. The Architect, from Dowie Doole, offers superb intensity of fruit and is decent value at $90 a bottle. There are 4 bottles of each of the aforementioned coming your way. To seal the deal, a bottle of Yaldara's Grand Cuvée Shiraz, from the unicorn '21 vintage, this is a $250 retail stunner - a cracking example of just how good Barossa Shiraz can be.

Barossa Valley, SA
96pts Sam Kim, 94pts Kim Brebach
The 2021 Yaldara Grand is a straight Shiraz, owing to the concentration and profundity of the Shiraz fruit from this vintage. Unsurprisingly, this offers more power and concentration than any previous vintage. A massive, deep and complex expression of the best bits of the Barossa Valley. Dark chocolate, liquorice, tobacco leaf, blue and black fruits, cedar, cassis, plums, cherries, spice and plenty of cedary oak and tannins. Incredible.
McLaren Vale, SA
96pts Kim Brebach, 95pts Wine Pilot, 94pts Sam Kim
Only tiny quantities are made of this wine, which is the product of the finest of Dowie Doole's A-grade Cabernet fruit from each vintage. '21 being an incredible vintage has elevated this even further. The previous vintage picked up 96 points from Kim Brebach who said,
"Decades ago, I had the privilege of tasting a group of Barolos and Barbarescos made by Giovanni Gaia. These wines had layers of deep flavour, ranging from smoked meats and old leather to licorice, gravel dust and tar. The Dowie Doole Architect reminded me of those wines because it had some of those characters, even if the expression was more restrained. Give it time, and I think you’ll be richly rewarded. If the price seems steep, keep in mind that a Barbaresco from Gaia will set you back $600."
The '21 is better again than the exceptional 2019 vintage, and represents a barrel selection chosen from only A-grade parcels from the old, dry-grown Blewitt Springs vineyard. There's black fruits, licorice, richness, density and layers. A stunning wine that will live for a very long time

96pts Sam Kim, 96pts Melbourne International Wine Competition, 95pts Kim Brebach, 94pts Ken Gargett, 2 Golds
A black, plush, and full-bodied Shiraz made from 80-year-old vines. Exceptional fruit intensity here, and weight of black fruits on the palate. Opulence is balanced by judicious acidity and there’re plenty of tannins driving through to an epic conclusion. Decant if you are going to enjoy now, otherwise cellar!
Clare Valley, SA
94pts Wine Pilot, 95pts Sam Kim
Rich, black, dark, deep, powerfully fruited and structured with a decent lick of oak. Old school but drinking beautifully thanks to its age. Blackcurrant, black olives, bay leaf, dark chocolate, zesty acidity and cedary oak make this a powerful pleasure right now. Will continue to improve tho, for at least a decade.
