Riposte 'The Dagger' Pinot Noir 2024

$24.00
Typically fresh and zesty. this edition of the Dagger is brimful of with fresh red and forest fruits and more power than we've seen in recent vintages. A modern Pinot in style and unashamedly medium bodied and made to enjoy over the next 5-6 years. The fruit here is quite concentrated and we reckon this is the best Dagger for a few years.

If you enjoy your wines and have done for a while, you have no doubt heard the name Tim Knappstein before. He is a third generation vigneron, with the Knappstein name having been involved in the SA wine business since 1895. Tim started making wine in 1966 and has amassed in excess of 500 show awards including 120 gold medals and 24 trophies. Not bad huh!

The Riposte label has allowed Tim to play around with some cool climate wines in the Adelaide Hills, most notably, “The Dagger” and “The Sabre” Pinots, which regularly picks up accolades.

Considerably cooler than the surrounding plains, the hills are washed in rain during winter months, and the peaks wrapped in fog. It is considered a high rainfall region compared to other Australian regions, but outside of winter the climate is warm and dry. Night time temperatures are the feature - notably cooler than the day when the sun sets. Worth noting is how the average rainfall increases the higher you go, with Mount Lofty picking up 1400mm on the old splash-o-meter compared to 850mm just 10K down the road in Charleston. This range of moisture and altitudes results in a variety of soils, but in general are sand and clay loam over clay subsoils. ... Read Full Article

Pinot noir (French pronunciation: [pinoˈnwaʁ]) is a red wine grape variety of the species Vitis vinifera. The name may also refer to wines created predominantly from Pinot noir grapes. The name is derived from the French words for "pine" and "black" alluding to the varietals' tightly clustered dark purple pine cone-shaped bunches of fruit. Pinot noir grapes are grown around the world, mostly in the cooler regions, but the grape is chiefly associated with the Burgundy region of France. It is widely considered to produce some of the finest wines in the world, but is a difficult variety to cultivate and transform into wine. Despite this, Pinot ... Read Full Article
